Graduate Student Handbook
Welcome from the Dean
Dear Graduate Students:
Welcome to the 2009-2010 academic year! It is my great pleasure to welcome you to Bentley, whether you are a new student at the McCallum Graduate School or are returning to us after a well-earned break. I wish you an excellent academic year that will lead to academic achievement and personal growth. Everyone here at Bentley is committed to providing our students with the academic and other resources you need to make the time at Bentley as rewarding as possible and help you achieve the personal and professional goals that you have set for your studies. You have made a major commitment in deciding to pursue a Master's degree in business, and I know that this requires significant changes in your personal and professional priorities. Together with my colleagues at Bentley, I personally pledge to do everything I can to make sure that your investment in time, effort, and money is worth your while, and that you will look back on your experience at Bentley as a great one.
I encourage you to take advantage of all the resources Bentley offers to you, both here on campus and virtually. Most importantly, do everything you can to benefit fully from the educational experiences we offer. Engage fully in your classes, work hard, and take advantage of the opportunity to discuss the course topics and other issues with your professors and fellow students outside the classroom. We offer to you a wide variety of on-line resources (particularly through our library), which will allow you to access a wealth of highest quality resources in our core areas of focus. The library was recently renovated and it is now an excellent facility for collaborative learning and a professional home for experts who are available to support you in your research work. Our Graduate Student and Academic Services and Graduate Career Service groups are ready to help you throughout your time at Bentley (and keep in touch with you once you are done with your studies). Get involved in the life of the Graduate Student Association (GSA), which is located in LaCava 284. Please drop in and take the time to learn about the graduate student organizations on campus and find out how you can use these opportunities for networking.
I encourage you to use this handbook to learn more about the excellent resources we have available, from outstanding faculty, staff, and students, to exceptional facilities and programs. It is also important to understand the responsibilities that come with these resources. The handbook outlines responsibilities and expectations for how we treat each other, our facilities, and ourselves.
The policies and procedures outlined in this handbook have been developed over time with input from all members of the Bentley community, including graduate students. Please feel free to make comments and suggestions.
Sincerely,
Heikki Topi
Associate Dean of Business (Graduate and Executive Programs)
