Registration FAQs

How do I register for classes?
As a new student, you have the option to register on-line via MyBentley. New students may also submit the New Student Registration Form to the Graduate Student and Academic Services Office who will register you and send you an e-mail confirmation, once your registration has been processed.

Students register for courses using MyBentley, which provides
online, real-time access for adding courses, changing registration and checking room assignments. MyBentley also allows students to check grades, student account information and/or financial aid information and to pay their tuition via a credit card.

In order to register via MyBentley during the first week of registration, your admission deposit must be submitted by the first day of the first registration week. Upon receipt of your deposit, a student record will be created for you so that you may access MyBentley, accept the Ethics Agreement and after 24 hours have access to register for classes. You may also submit your registration request (including alternates) on the New Student Registration Form. If you submit your registration request to the Graduate Student and Academic Services Office using the New Student Registration Form, you will receive a registration confirmation via your Bentley e-mail account.

Initial access for registration is controlled by the first letter of a student’s last name. Please check the access chart included in the Registration Book to determine “your day” for registration. After the first week of alpha registration access, registration access is not restricted and all students may add or drop courses as they wish. You are encouraged to register as soon as possible as many classes fill during the first week of registration.

What is the maximum number of courses I may take?
Graduate students are restricted to the number of credits that they may register for in a given term. This number is based on the student’s program and the full time/part time status as declared on the admission application:

Day MBA and MS+MBA students: 18 credit maximum
Evening MBA and MS Students: Full-time/12 credit maximum and part-time/nine credit maximum.

Students who would like to register for more than their maximum credit allowance in a given term must request a Credit Limit Change prior to the beginning of the registration period by sending an e-mail to Graduate Student and Academic Services at gradvising@bentley.edu.

How are wait lists for closed classes managed?
All graduate courses, including hybrid courses, have a maximum enrollment number. If the class you are interested in taking is closed, you may place yourself on the wait list. If the course that you attempt to register for is closed, you have the option of placing yourself on the wait list. Please be aware that there are no guarantees that all students on a wait list will be offered a seat in the class; thus you are encouraged to register for an alternate course. To prevent unnecessary wait lists, please register only for the courses that you intend to take and drop yourself from a wait list if you no longer wish to be considered for the course.

Please note that all offers of available seats are made via e-mail to your Bentley student e-mail account; if you are on a wait list, please make sure that you check your Bentley e-mail account often or that you forward your Bentley student e-mail account to an e-mail address that you check on a regular basis. For more information about the wait list, please visit www.bentley.edu/registrar/.

Can I ever be prevented from registering?
Yes. You need to check BannerWeb for students before your assigned registration date to view any holds that may prevent you from registering on time. Typical holds that can prevent you from registering include:

Financial holds for students with an outstanding balance due.

Health holds for full-time students who have not submitted appropriate health forms.

Incomplete file holds for first and second semester students who have not submitted the necessary admission documents.

It is your responsibility to clear any holds on your student record.

What do I need to know if I take a hybrid course?
Hybrid courses provide students with the option of attending class either on campus or via the web each week depending on what best fits their schedule.

Students attending class online are expected to be present
and participating at the time of each class meeting.

Hybrid courses are identified with the section designators: HB1, HB2, and so on.

Please visit https://online.bentley.edu/hybrid/ for a detailed explanation and information about taking an online course via Centra, including required computer specifications.

What do I need to know if I take an intensive course?
Intensives are courses (three credits) delivered in consecutive full-day sessions for one week or for five Saturdays.

Most intensives have a mandatory pre-session class of two to three weeks discussed and groups and research topics defined. The majority of the reading for the course is expected to be completed prior to the beginning of the intensive class.

Students must be prepared to attend Monday through Friday of the intensive week from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., or all five Saturdays as scheduled. In addition, students who take a one-week intensive must be available in the evening as well in order to hold group meetings, meet with the professor, or to work on assignments which might need to be completed overnight. Faculty expect students to be prepared for class each day.

Not all intensives are over on Friday at 5:00 p.m. or at the end of the day on the fifth Saturday. Most require students to complete a paper due within the following four to six weeks.

Students electing to register for an intensive class must realize that a great deal is expected of them. They should plan to clear their schedule so that they can fully benefit from enrollment in an intensive class.

Students must register for an intensive course prior to the pre-session. No additional registration is accepted for an intensive class after the pre-sessions has been held.

Due to the format of an intensive course, enrollment is limited to 25 or fewer students.

One-week intensives are usually offered in January (the week
prior to the start of the spring semester), May (the week prior to the start of the summer semester), June (the second week) and July (the third week). Five Saturday intensives are offered in the fall or spring semesters only.

What do I need to know if I am interested in a Global Business Experience?
Graduate Global Business Experiences (GBE) are faculty-led, 10-day to two-week courses (three credits) that offer an  intensive look at business or cultural practices in a  country abroad.

GBEs are usually offered in January during semester break, in
March during spring break or in May at the start of the summer semester.

All GBEs include pre-departure classes on-campus in addition to the travel component.

Destinations of GBEs for each academic year are usually announced in September. Prior destinations have included Bermuda, China, Eastern Europe, India, Ireland and Japan.

Students interested in participating in a GBE should consult their
adviser in the Graduate Student and Academic Services Office to determine that the course fits in their program. Students
must then complete a special application available through  the Education Abroad Office. For more information, visit www.bentley.edu/abroad/.

The cost of each GBE program varies but usually includes tuition, airfare and hotel charges.

Special note: Bentley Scholarship funding or merit-based aid may not be used for a GBE. Students who decide to take a study tour must assume the total cost of the program.
