FAQs

Q: Why should I enroll in CP/CS?
A: You will be better prepared to make a difference in this world as a business leader who is able to solve complex, real-world problems. You will enhance your creativity and problem-solving and decision-making skills. These skills will be useful in your upper-level coursework and in any jobs you have while at Bentley. You also can include CP/CS on your resume for prospective jobs after graduation.
Q: How will I learn about consumer choices, environmental sustainability and techno trash?
A: In your first year, you will explore aspects of one or more of these topics in your two General Business courses (accounting and finance and the legal environment of business), and in history, information technology, philosophy, and either psychology or sociology. During your second year, two General Business courses (marketing and operations and human behavior in organizations) and four General Education courses (microeconomics, expository writing, science and global studies) will provide you with opportunities to continue learning.
Q: How does participating in CP/CS affect my schedule?
A. The beauty of this program is its integration with degree requirement courses that you would need to take anyway.

Q: Is CP/CS just about what courses I take?
A: You will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of co-curricular experiences which may include guest lectures, film screenings, community events, service-learning group projects, and a year-end culminating event. While you encounter the CP/CS theme through intentional program design, ultimately you shape your own experience, based on your level of commitment to participating in the activities and events offered to CP/CS students.
Q: Could I also participate in other programs, such as the Honors Program, the Liberal Studies major and Education Abroad?
A: While CP/CS courses satisfy various general education and business core requirements, you also will have room in your plan of study to make choices pertaining to other programs. However, thoughtful consideration of your options and careful planning will be necessary, and you will need to make choices based on what is most important to you.
Q: What are my responsibilities if I sign up for this program? Can I drop out if I don’t like it?
A: By signing up for CP/CS, you are indicating your commitment to being part of a distinctive pilot program. You will have to take CP/CS-designated sections of some courses and will be required to attend extracurricular events when we work together outside of the classroom. Should you decide the program is not for you, you will be able to discuss withdrawal with a staff member in the Dean's Office.
Q: What are the added advantages if I take part in CP/CS?
A: CP/CS encourages students to solve problems in creative ways and to push beyond the initial "solution." It also gives students an opportunity to meld what they learn in twelve separate classes to the real world while doing so with a strong, smart team of students and professors. And, participation in this learning community will look good on the résumé that you will eventually be using to find internships and a permanent job after graduation. It tells prospective employers that you have more than the usual amount of education and experience in creative problem-solving, and that you want to actively work to use what you know and can do in order to make the world a better place.
Q: Who can I talk to if I have other questions?
A: You can contact Diane Tetreault, CP/CS Project Leader, at dtetreault@bentley.edu, Judy Kamm, associate dean of business, at jkamm@bentley.edu, or Lynne Durkin, dean of arts and sciences, at mdurkin@bentley.edu. We welcome your questions about the initiative.
