Mike Page, Bentley's Dean of Business, spoke on "Global Trends for the Education of 21st Century Business Leaders." Tony Buono, Coordinator of Bentley's Alliance for Ethics and Social Responsibility, also shared his comments on Bentley's latest Communication on Progress as a signatory of the PRME initiative.

Bentley undergraduate students Michael Ginzburg and Owen Bacewicz, and Tony Buono, coordinator of the Bentley Alliance for Ethics and Social Responsibility, presented a session on Bentley's Civic Leadership program. Gerard Stenerson (Dean, First Year Programs) and Lynne Johanson (BSLC) presented a session entitled “How to Build a Meaningful Spring Break Experience for Today's Students: Building Moral Character for Tomorrow’s Leaders,” focusing on Bentley’s alternate spring break program with Habitat for Humanity.

43rd Annual Combined Institute on Federal and State Taxation, November 14, Burlington, Mass., November 21, Worcester, Mass., and November 28, Plymouth, Mass.. Brigitte Muehlmann (LT&FP) served as a panelist on Ethical Issues, focusing on the fiduciary responsibility of of accountants and financial planners, client records and powers of attorney, avoiding conflicts of interest with joint representation letters, being careful with contingent fees; and defensive engagement letters and IRC Section 7525 "tax adviser" privileged communications.
Students as Colleagues Institute: Expanding the Circle of Service-Learning Leadership. Bentley College, Waltham, Massachusetts, November 2 and 3, 2006. Co-sponsored by the Bentley Service-Learning Center, Massachusetts Campus Compact (MACC) and New England Resource Center for Higher Education (NERCHE). The conference focuses on successful models for nurturing and utilizing student leaders in academic service-learning programs. Interactive workshops feature three core themes: Finding and Training Student Leaders, Student-Designed Academic Work, and Students as Colleagues. Edward Zlotkowski (EN), founder of the Bentley Service-Learning Program was the keynote speaker.

New England Philosophy of Education Society (NEPES) 2006 Annual Meeting, Framingham State College, Framingham, Massachusetts, October 21, 2006. Robert McNulty (PH) presented a paper on “On The Problem of Relativism, Absolutism, and Universalism in Moral Education.”
2006 Center for Academic Integrity International Conference, University of Colorado at Boulder, October 19 to 21. Coralee Whitcomb (CIS/Academic Integrity Coordinator) and four Bentley students — Chris Liptrot (President, Academic Integrity Council), William Englund (AIC Program VP), Richard Doyle (AIC Organizational VP) and Emily Ayers (Sophomore Class Representative) — presented a workshop on “Developing the Student Integrity Activist” and running a Resource booth promoting Bentley’s AI System.

Tony Buono, coordinator of the Bentley Alliance for Ethics and Social Responsibility, served on a panel on “Diverse Approaches to Teaching Business Ethics.” Tony focused his comments on the Alliance and the Global Business Ethics Symposium and Teaching Workshop sponsored by State Street Corporation. Cynthia Williams (Assistant Director, Ph.D. Program) presented a paper entitled “Courting Stakeholders: Ethics of Shifting Ownership Structures.”

Judith Kamm, (Associate Dean of Business), Franklyn Salimbene (Director of the Bentley Service-Learning Center) and Manuel Carneiro (Bentley Junior) will present “National Outreach for Natural Disaster Recovery: the Bentley Bayou LaBatre Clinic Project.”
Northeast Regional Campus Compact Conference, Telling our Stories: Measuring Our Impact, April 6 to 7, Nashua, New Hampshire. Edward Zlotkowski (EN) will be presenting a pre-conference workshop on “Students as Colleagues.” Ellen Foxman (MG) and Shawn Hauserman (BS-LC) will talk about their current course project focused on helping victims of Hurricane Katrina, “Bentley College and Bayou La Batre (AL): Building Relationships Between a Suburban College and a Rural Fishing Village.”

Center for Academic Integrity Conference,“Promoting Academic Integrity: Teaching, Research and Practice,” Blacksburg, Virginia, October 20 to 22, 2005. Coralee Whitcomb, Bentley’s academic integrity coordinator, presented a session entitled “The Devil is in the Details,” which focused on three fundamental conflicts inherent in implementing an academic integrity system.

Ophera Davis, assistant psychology, presented a paper on “Counseling First-Generation African-American Students.” Barbara Paul-Emile, professor of English and Goldman Distinguished Professor of Arts and Sciences, presented a paper on “Honoring Diversity: Self-discovery and the ‘Voice of the Other’ in Selected African-American and Caribbean Works.”

Springfield, Massachusetts, May 11 to 14, 2005. Tony Buono, coordinator of the Bentley Alliance for Ethics and Social Responsibility, was part of a symposium on “AACSB and Business Ethics Education.” Tony spoke on “Institutionalizing Business Ethics: The Mandate and the Challenge.” Bob Frederick, professor and chair of the Philosophy Department, was a keynote panelist on the Conference theme.

Investment Management Consultants Association, 2005 Conference on "Looking Forward: Consulting in the 21st Century. Palm Desert, California, April 10 to 13, 2005. Mark Rowe, Senior Research Associate, Center for Business Ethics, talked about his survey of IMCA's 4,500 members of their perceptions, experiences and attitudes toward business ethics. The survey focused on taking the “ethical temperature” of the investment industry and exploring the needs and concerns of IMCA’s membership.

Panelists included Michael Hoffman, executive director, Center for Business Ethics and Tony Buono, coordinator, Bentley Alliance for Ethics and Social Responsibility. Mike discused the evolution of Bentley's Center for Business Ethics and trends in business ethics education.
